WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT:

  • Responsible for sourcing, contract management, purchasing, and receiving of all materials for the company; for management of raw material warehouses holding both inventory and non-inventory items. 
  • Implement a centralized purchasing function focusing on process improvements and cost savings opportunities related to material contracts, selection, services, and process standardization.
  • Analyze trends in company spending and inventory control in order to make recommendations for the future, and to identify areas for possible savings. 
  • Determine present and future material availability and recommends major purchases on the basis of anticipated changes in prices or on unusual availability situations.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor proposals, availability and delivery schedules, negotiates prices, contracts, and payment terms. 
  • Establish, build, and maintain relationships with all key suppliers.
  • Review and resolve any discrepancies with supplier invoices, grievances, claims, conflicts, product non-conformance or quality issues.
  • Ensure order quantities are the most cost-effective possible for material and freight costs.
  • Participate in new product development and change management processes
  • Develop procedures for receipt, transfer, and shipment of raw materials and ensure all incoming materials are labeled and inventoried in warehouses properly.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance to define the procedures for inspection of materials

THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS:

  • BS/BA degree (Materials Management, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering).
  • 7-10 years of experience in materials, purchasing, or procurement; including all aspects of strategy development and execution. 
  • Understanding of inventory management concepts such as ABC analysis, MRP, Lean Mfg, inventory cycle counts, etc. 
  • Direct responsibility for achieving year-over-year cost savings of purchased materials.
  • Superb budgeting, inventory, and cost-management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP (SAP, Great Plains, MS Dynamics preferred).
