WHERE THE POSITION IS LOCATED:

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Guide team on Agile/Scrum practices, including how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers; how to get the most of self-organization; self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks; assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
  • Clearly understand the goals/outcomes of the team
  • Manage and track the performance/velocity of the team, identifying opportunities and driving adjustments to continually enhance the efficiency of their delivery
  • Manage the capacity and demand of the team (including defect management) to optimize the throughput of the team
  • Prepare, facilitate and document the key meeting routines within the team
  • Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Keep release/product information consolidated, organized and up to date
  • Remove impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
  • Drive continuous improvement in the team by facilitating retrospectives and identifying and managing opportunities within and across release cycles.
  • Facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approaches to manage oneself and a team
  • Coach team members and mediating conflicts to resolution
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving
  • Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog
  • Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example

HOW YOU ARE QUALIFIED:

  • First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
  • Must be high-energy
  • Must be able to facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approaches
  • Must be the first to notice differences and issues as they arise, facilitate resolution and elevate them to management
  • Must be able to garner respect from his/her team and be willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done
