WHERE THIS POSITION IS LOCATED:

WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT:

  • Identify process improvement, capacity, and cost reduction projects based on data
  • Manage the electrical and controls scope of process performance improvement (OEE), recipe management, and projects (Safety, Yield, Cost, Capacity)
  • Provides diagnosis and repair minimizing downtime, increasing utilization and efficiency. Diagnose repair or replace damaged or broken wires/cables, printed circuit boards, modules, or sensors associated with malfunctioning electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors and motor controllers, lighting circuits and fixtures, temperature controllers, AC and DC drive motor controllers
  • Performs hands-on wiring, assembly, programming and documentation of projects and repairs
  • Assists with manufacturing and systems process improvement projects including development, programming, implementation, commissioning and final documentation. Work with a variety of other skilled technicians and contractors on projects and aid in them being completed on time, on budget, and with the highest degree of quality and workmanship
  • Diagnose repair or replace damaged pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical components associated with malfunctioning processes such as pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, bearings, chains and sprockets
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, PLC, and routine maintenance duties as required
  • Document calibration and configuration procedures required to allow production equipment to run efficiently within product specifications
  • Work with and train maintenance and other support personnel to improve troubleshooting skills plant-wide
  • Operational Theory - Work toward fundamental understanding of components in your area, document this information, and share this information with Process Engineering, MET, and Maintenance
  • Write Troubleshooting Guides for step by step troubleshooting
  • Support the transfer of new cabling technology, materials, or processes from development to production. Provide controls support during product development, develop plans as to how the equipment/processes will be employed into production and ensure that the new technology is repeatable in a production environment prior to transfer. Ensure all controls relevant documentation is completed such as PM, calibration, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Consider safety implications in all decisions
  • Regularly review and consider available process data
  • When applicable consider input and review data with SMEs
  • Make sound engineering; data driven decisions
  • Communicate and document changes to enable expedited future responses
  • Track the production performances to ensure capability is maintained

THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS:

  • Associates Degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Systems or related fields OR equivalent work experience and certifications
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 2+ years manufacturing experience working with PLCs / HMIs / VFDs controlling process and automation equipment
  • Minimum of 2 years experience programming Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs - including v20 systems and higher
  • Must have experience in programming of Allen Bradley ControlLogix v20 systems and higher
  • Must have the ability to generate, debug and modify PLC code - ladder logic, structured text and function block diagram
  • Must have experience in programming of HMI / SCADA systems programming in a plant environment including higher level communications protocols - Red Lion / GE IFIX experience desired
  • Must be able to work safely
  • Must have experience working with Mechanical and Pneumatic systems
  • Must be able to communicate with team members, vendors, suppliers
  • Must be able to work individually or in team setting as work dictates
  • Must be able to read and draw schematics and drawings to specify new or replacement components for equipment
  • Must be able to use blueprints to wire, install, build and troubleshoot electronic and electrical equipment and controls
  • Must be able to clean, inspect, and disassemble machinery and equipment. Must be able to evaluate work and broken components to determine root cause of failure
  • Must be able to test and repair compressed air and vacuum systems and devices
  • Must be able to replace or repair defective components, reassemble system and test and adjust for correct application
  • Must be able to use power tools
  • Ensure proactive safety measures for all equipment and processes. Seeks to identify and correct potential safety or environmental issues using NEC, NFPA, and other pertinent safety codes. Ensure safety procedures, such as Lock-Out Tag-Out, are followed at all times.
  • Modify / generate electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical for systems changes including control panel layouts, component documentation, and schematics. Review electrical drawing packages for conformance to company standards.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of 3 phase electrical systems, machine/motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, VFD and Servo programming, communication protocols, and practical application
  • Ability to reach fundamental understanding of controls issues utilizing sound troubleshooting skills
  • Capable of executing project assignments, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot electrical circuitry with appropriate test equipment to analyze problems and correct deficiencies
  • Ability to test and repair plumbing systems, and replace parts as necessary. Test for proper operation and integrity
  • Thoroughly carry out assignments to completion

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of legacy controls equipment, networks, and software
  • Experience with the OSI PI (historian) interface
  • Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
